Decide on the End Result
What is the goal you have in mind? What do you wish to achieve? In business, goals are often work related with numbers, sales and statistics in mind. With success at the forefront, choose a goal that will not only give you a better end result, but one you’ll be happy in completing. You can think short term and break a larger goal into multiple small steps, meaning you’ll hit several goals before getting to the end result. Before you reach 50, you have to reach 10. Once you have your goal in mind, don’t be afraid to tweak it to ensure success. The best way to achieve your goal is to make your goal S.M.A.R.T. for efficient steps to achieving your goal.
To make a smart goal it has to be:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Agreed Upon
- Realistic
- Time-Based
Goal setting requires all 5 key components regardless if your goal is personal or business related. A specific goal means that it’s clear, leaving no room for assumptions or loopholes. A measurable goal means that it’s achievable and you know how far away the end result may be. An agreed upon goal means that everyone involved knows the details and has no hesitations in the end result. A realistic goal means that it’s possible to achieve with the resources and abilities you have. A time-based goal means that you set a deadline for when you’re aiming to be at the end result.
Choose a Plan of Action
Before you work towards your goal, you must set a course of action. Decide what steps you need to take in order to achieve your goal and how you’ll make it happen. Write down each step in a notebook and write tasks in a calendar to keep yourself accountable. You’ll have a schedule to follow to your goal is accomplished.
It’s okay to go off-course in some ways, but sticking to your goal’s plan is the best way to implement success in your daily progress.

Your goal will take time and effort. During the process, account for adjustments you may need to make. Reflect on what’s working and what has room for improvement. You will see progress if you continue to resolve any issues or setbacks that may arise.
